Startup Idea : Alerts for meaningful things that matter

Living in an `information society', we are bombarded with information whether or not we actively seek it. We are all affected by the increasing number of sources from which information emanates. A service which would alert people only when the things/events there are looking for has occurred. Something like www.searchifi.com. Would save enormous time and be very useful.
